FAQ

Pricing, coverage, licensing, and how our crew-continuity guarantee actually works.

This goes directly to Renee, no forwarding, no queue — she or Victor calls back the same day with a crew size and hourly rate already worked out for your Central Jersey move, not a range you'd have to confirm later.

Answers to the questions we hear most from customers booking a local or long-distance move with Cardinal Moving. Call the office at (732) 662-4915 if you don’t see what you’re looking for.

How is pricing calculated for a local move?
Local moves are billed hourly: $135/hr for a 2-person crew, $175/hr for 3, and $215/hr for 4, plus $45/hr for each additional mover beyond that. Darnell gives you a crew-size recommendation and an hourly estimate at your in-home walkthrough, and you're billed for the hours actually worked.
Do you require a deposit to book?
Yes — a $150 deposit holds your date once you book, and it's credited straight to your final invoice. It isn't an extra charge on top of your move; it simply comes off the total.
What happens if something gets damaged?
Basic released-value protection is included on every job at no extra cost. If you're moving anything you'd want covered at full replacement value — art, electronics, furniture you can't easily replace — ask Darnell about full-value protection at your in-home estimate; he'll walk you through what it covers and what it costs.
Is Cardinal Moving licensed to operate in New Jersey?
Yes. We're registered with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs as a Public Mover and Warehouseman, which is the state's requirement for any company moving household goods locally in New Jersey. For interstate moves, we operate under US DOT and interstate MC operating authority.
Do you offer storage if my move-in date falls through?
We keep short-term storage in our own warehouse in Edison — it isn't a unit we sublease across the county line, so your belongings stay under our roof and in the same hands until your new place is ready.
Can you move a piano or other heavy items?
Yes. Uprights, grands, and gun safes get rigged with a piano board and real straps, not muscled down a stairwell by hand. Tell Darnell about anything heavy or awkward at the walkthrough so he can book the right crew size and equipment for it.
I need to move in the next few days — can you help?
Often, yes. Call the office directly rather than filling out the online form; Renee will tell you honestly whether we can fit your date and, if we can, get a crew and a truck lined up fast.
What's this 'same crew' guarantee I keep seeing?
Darnell Osei does your in-home estimate and books the crew for your job. That crew — not a substitute pulled in because someone called out — is who shows up on move day. Victor started the company on this rule after years of watching a large van line swap crews at the last minute, and it's still how every job is staffed.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Edison and cover Middlesex, Union, and Somerset counties, including New Brunswick, Elizabeth, Woodbridge, Piscataway, Metuchen, South Plainfield, Perth Amboy, and Somerset. If you're just outside that footprint, call the office — we still take jobs nearby.
Do you handle long-distance and interstate moves?
Yes, out of New Jersey to destinations like New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, and further down the coast. These moves run on our own trucks with one crew from the first box loaded to the last one off — we don't hand your things to a different truck or crew partway through.
What Sets Cardinal Moving Apart Around Edison

Here’s What Cardinal Moving Does Differently Than Most Movers Around Edison

Registered With NJ’s Division Of Consumer Affairs — Not Just A Line On The Website

Any household mover working Edison and the surrounding Central Jersey towns has to carry Public Mover and Warehouseman registration through the state's Division of Consumer Affairs; Cardinal Moving renews it annually, no lapses. Once a job crosses into Pennsylvania, New York, or anywhere else outside NJ, that's a separate US DOT and MC authority doing the covering.

Coverage, Explained Once, Not Upsold Twice

Every job includes released-value protection at no cost. If you'd rather have the higher payout ceiling of full-value coverage, ask Darnell to price it during your walkthrough You hear the options once, at the estimate — nobody's pitching an upgrade halfway down your stairwell with a dresser on their shoulder.

The Crew That Quotes It Is The Crew That Moves It

Victor spent seven years writing estimates for a large regional van line where a dispatcher handed the job to whoever was free that morning — rarely the person who'd actually walked the house. At Cardinal Moving, whoever books your job at the estimate is on the truck that shows up, every time, so nothing gets lost between the walkthrough and moving day.

All Sixteen Of Us Are On Payroll, Not A Rotating Bench

Sixteen people, twelve of them movers, all drawing a regular paycheck from Cardinal Moving — no day-labor crews pulled in when a week gets busy and no subcontractors filling out a truck. The same twelve faces rotate through the schedule Renee builds each week, so the crew you get has worked together before, not met each other in the driveway.

The Crew That Quotes It Is The Crew That Moves It.

The person who prices your move is the same person whose name is on the truck. Victor started Cardinal Moving in 2015 after seven years writing estimates for a van line that handed every job to whoever was free that morning — so now the crew you meet at the walkthrough is the crew that shows up on moving day, every time, no swap-ins.
